Salvadore "Sam" Dominic Scarpinato, Jr.

Sam earned his bachelor’s from UMSL and went on to secure his master’s and JD from SIUE and the Laclede School of Law, respectively. He dedicated over 40 years to the State of Missouri as a hearings officer. In his free time, Sam was an excellent cook and an aspiring baker. He loved going to new restaurants and trying new foods - the more obscure the better! For a shy man, Sam had a wicked sense of humor and a thoughtful word of advice for anyone who asked. He was an avid traveler, cruising with his beloved Sue through Alaska, the Baltic, the Panama Canal, and Canada. Sam relished his adventures with Alice - scuba diving, hiking glaciers, exploring volcanos, and walking Red Square. He was a skilled handyman, completing Nina’s "Papa Do" lists with ease and then enjoying a Mr. Softee on the stoop. 

If you wanted to know Sam, or understand his heart, you needed only to see him with “his girls” - Sue, Nina, and Alice - they were the center of his world, and he was the center of theirs. He was, and will always be, dearly loved and greatly missed by all who knew him. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Team Boom Boom Kitties, riding in Memorial Sloan Kettering's Cycle for Survival, which raises money to research rare cancers. Memorials may also be made to the Siteman Cancer Center, who took such good care of Sam and the girls in his final months.
