Sam was born March 20, 1946, in Madison, FL. His formative years were spent growing up in southern Georgia and northern Florida, surrounded by a large and close-knit extended family. In his younger years, while living in Jacksonville, FL, he enjoyed competing in contests at the local teen town dance halls. A highlight of this time was dancing with Diana Ross, a personal "claim to fame." He proudly served in the United States Army, and after his honorable discharge, he relocated to St. Louis, MO. There he caught Ann’s eye with his captivating dance moves, and they were married in 1968. He had a long career that began at McDonald Douglas and while working he obtained his associate degree in Engineering and Manifest Management & Technology. He dedicated over 37 years to the aerospace industry, retiring in 2011 from GKN. Known for his diligence, Sam often worked seven days a week, and overtime ensuring his family was well provided for. While raising their children Sam and Ann cherished family vacations, particularly camping trips across the United States and frequent visits "down home" to Florida. An avid fisherman, he delighted in teaching his children and grandchildren the joys of the sport. His humor and knack for storytelling brought laughter and warmth to all who knew him, as he shared tales of his upbringing and family history. He also enjoyed watching Westerns and Bigfoot investigations. A devoted family man, he treasured his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His faith in Jesus Christ was his life’s cornerstone. He not only embraced his faith personally but also instilled its values within his family, guiding them with love and wisdom. Samuel was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
Memorials may be made in Sam's name to Friends of Kids with Cancer and the American Red Cross.
