Samuel Mark Kidd

On July 29, 2024, the world lost a bright light as Sam Kidd, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in St. Peters, Missouri, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 14, 1959, in Trenton, Missouri, to Donald and Charlotte (Schaffer) Kidd, Sam lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to those around him.

Sam's legacy of love lives on through his wife, Lori Sharpsteen, and her daughters Nicole Mizell (husband Matt), Sam Sharpsteen, and Charlee Sharpsteen; his ex-wife, Geri Kidd, and her children Samantha Berra (husband John), Stefan Walker, and Scott Walker. He is also survived by his brothers Michael Kidd (wife Joimae) and Donald Kidd Jr. (wife Kathy), along with their children Braden (wife Ally), Justin (wife Alexis), and Jordan Kidd. He is survived by his nephew Derek (and wife Kaela) and niece Mandy and his Uncle Richard and Aunt Vera Kidd. Sam's heart was big enough to embrace seven step-grandchildren: Jack and Ella Mizell, Theo and Rosie Scheerer, Sylvia and Jace Berra, and Elliott Walker. He joins his parents and brother Randall Kidd in eternal rest.

A lifelong learner, Sam earned two master's degrees: one in Sports Administration from Northeast Missouri State (Kirksville) and another in Education Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. His passion for education and nurturing young minds shaped his career, beginning as a PE teacher in Lathrop, Missouri, in 1984. Sam's dedication led him to Hazelwood Central High School, where he taught health and PE from 1988 to 1998. He also coached 4 sports during his teaching years; football, wrestling, cross country, and track. He was known as “Coach Kidd,” a great mentor and leader to all of his players. Sam then advanced to an assistant principal at Hazelwood East High School. He retired from education in 2003, leaving an indelible mark on countless students' lives.

Sam's entrepreneurial spirit shone through in his second career as the owner and operator of Appletree Construction from 2004 to 2014. His strong work ethic and personable nature then led him to Lowe's, where he served as an assistant store manager and outside salesperson from 2014 to 2021.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Sam was a man who embraced life with open arms. An avid sportsman, he found joy in hunting, golf, and spirited games of bocce ball. His passion for Kansas City Chiefs football was legendary among friends and family. Sam's zest for life extended to his love of travel and the precious moments spent with his loved ones.

Those who knew Sam will forever remember his kind heart, generous spirit, and the infectious optimism he brought to every situation. His ability to light up a room with his smile and make everyone feel valued was unparalleled. Sam's love for his family and friends knew no bounds, and the void left by his passing will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

To celebrate the remarkable life of this extraordinary man, a ceremony of life will be held on September 28, 2024, from 12-4pm at Frankie Martins Garden in Cottleville. All whose lives were touched by Sam's warmth and generosity are welcome to join in honoring his memory and the lasting impact he made on our world.

Sam Kidd lived, loved, and left us all better for having known him. May his spirit of kindness and joy continue to inspire us all.
