Sandra Lee Dennis

Sandra Lee Dennis (nee McMakin), of Defiance, MO, passed away Monday, May 20, 2024, at the age of 77. Beloved wife of the late William Dennis; cherished daughter of the late Euletta June and Marcus James McMakin, Sr.; devoted mother of Stacy (Brian) Curia, and Dr. William (Amy) Dennis; loving grandmother of Marie Curia; dear sister of Mary Jane Pittman, Sharon (Leonard) Lee, the late Marcus "Buddy" James McMakin, Jr., and sister-in-law of Patti DeCandt-McMakin.

Sandra proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a Registered Nurse during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, she worked for the State of Missouri as the Director of Nursing for Bellefontaine Habilitation Center for many years. Sandra also worked at Emmaus Home for several years before returning to Bellefontaine Habilitation. She then worked as a school nurse for Walker Elementary School in the Hazelwood School District and for Sts. Joachim and Ann Catholic School. Sandra loved working in her yard. When she wasn’t doing yardwork, she was snuggled on the couch reading with her cats and dog. Sandra was always ready for a trip, an adventure, or a long drive after lunch with a friend. She was a devout Catholic and her beliefs meant everything to her. Quality time with her family was always of the utmost importance to her. Sandra was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
