Shadd Benjamin Dawson
1997-2021
To know Shadd is to love Shadd.
Our cherished Shadd Benjamin Dawson passed away on April 22, 2021 in Wentzville, Missouri where he was living with his father. He was 23 years old. His passing was sudden and accidental, but we would like to focus on sharing our memories of Shadd’s life.
Shadd was born in Greely, Colorado on September 22, 1997, the son of Steven Dawson and Joyce Gines Taylor. He was in such a hurry to join our family; he basically jumped into the doctor’s arms 20 minutes after his mother went into labor and he has been full of get-up-and-go ever since. From the very beginning, Shadd had a light and energy around him that brought smiles to everyone who knew him. We are a family full of love and Shadd loved his family without measure. He was devoted to his big brother, Adam and adored his little sister, Samantha. As our family evolved and grew, Shadd embraced Joyce’s husband Mike and Steve’s partner Errol. Shadd had many uncles, aunts and cousins and enjoyed every moment he got to spend with them. Shadd also had so many friends it was hard to keep track, and he loved every single one. Saying goodbye to Shadd is without question incredibly difficult for his family and friends, but we know he is being embraced right now by his Grandma and Grandpa Gines, and his Grandma and Grandpa Dawson.
In Shadd’s short life he lived in many places…Greely CO, Kaysville UT, Camas WA, and Wentzville MO, however Camas was home. He loved the Northwest and was looking forward to moving back. Shadd was a graduate from Camas High School where he excelled academically as well as in athletics. Shadd was a soccer player through-and-through. Although he played many sports, he was a passionate soccer player. His love of soccer became his focus which carried him through premier leagues and to the Camas varsity team.
Shadd was a hard worker. At 16 he started working at Pita Pit in Vancouver with his big brother, Adam. His mom and dad loved going into “The Pit” and watching both boys work together. Most recently, Shadd was employed as an Assistant Manager for Circle K. The outpouring of love from his co-workers at Circle K is wonderful especially from his manager. She shared “Shadd was a joy and a wonderful friend, very hard worker, he jumped in with both feet and hit the ground running at every task”.
Yes, Shadd worked hard, and he also played hard. He enjoyed his vacations…which were many. His favorite was the family trip to Hawaii where he did flips off cliffs, snorkeled with turtles, learned to surf, flew in a helicopter, swam with sharks, and embraced the Haleakala sunrise. Shadd loved the beauty of the sunrise and sunsets and you could often find him chasing either. A close second to his favorite vacation were the many family trips to Disneyland. He started going to Disneyland when he was 2 and enjoyed every visit up to this last year.
Shadd loved Christmas. He enjoyed getting Christmas Eve pajamas and wasted no time putting them on the second they were unwrapped. Shadd enjoyed so many additional things. He was an outstanding skateboarder and would spend hours perfecting various tricks. He enjoyed going to the gym, snowboarding, the beach, the river, hiking, camping, movies, and most of all, time with his family and friends.
Shadd…your dad, mom, brother, and sister love you so much. The many memories we have with you will endure and continue to bring us joy. We are extremely proud of the man you became, and we will miss you every single second of every single day.
--Son, you left us beautiful memories. Your love is still our guide and though we cannot see you, you’re always by our side. --
