Sharon "Sha" Kay Shy Hanawalt (nee Shy), of Canton, GA, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the age of 63. Beloved wife of Lawrence "Larry" Hudson Hanawalt; cherished daughter of James Burnell Shy and the late Sandra Lee Shy; devoted mother of William (Tara) Cantwell; loving grandmother of Mackenzie, Brooklyn, Hunter, Lacyie, Sharlotte, Joseph and Kristopher; treasured great-grandmother of Ryan; dear sister of the late Susan Rae Shy; Sharon is also survived by aunts and uncles, Barbara, Marcella, Ina Jean, Lawrence, Denzel Ray, Ronnie, Junior, Mary, Michelle, and Joyce; Sharon is preceded in death by Aunts and Uncles, Daryl, Charles, Sue, Everett, Faye, Lavern and Brenda.
Sharon was extremely passionate about preventing drunk and impaired driving and strongly advocated for victims. She was instrumental in setting up a chapter of MADD in Georgia, working with victims, law enforcement, and legislature. This particular Chapter served seven counties in Georgia.
Sharon was a very talented amateur photographer and often was requested by law enforcement to go all over the state taking photos. In her free time, she enjoyed playing musical instruments, especially the clarinet. Sharon was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
