Memorials to Harvester Christian Church Children's Ministry or Music Ministry. Shirley Ann Smith was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, November 10, 1949, the daughter of Elmer and Joan Knight. Shirley graduated from Haven High School in 1967. She attended South Hutchinson Christian Church with her family and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young girl. Her life was lived as a faithful Christian. It was at the church that she met Galord Smith who would become her husband. Together they attended Ozark Bible College in Joplin, Missouri. They were married in June, 1970. They were blessed with two sons, Bradley, born in 1978 and Corey in 1985. Shirley and Galord were charter members of Harvester Christian Church where they served together for 28 years. Shirley was a gifted musician and served as a pianist and in the worship ministry. In june of 1986 they begun Harvester Christian Childcare where Shirley served as the Director of Operations through 2008. The Christian Childcare has been influential through these years in introducing hundreds of children and their families to the Lord and Christ and the ministry of Harvester Christian Church. Shirley loved children and together she and Galord served in the Children's ministry and in "Children's Church" for over 30 years. Shirley loved music and was a part of the Victory Choir from its beginning. She was faithful in Women's Bible studies as a leader and teacher. She served in "Journey to Bethlehem", Harvester Christian Church's Christmas drama telling the Christmas story. She loved the missions ministries and was a supporter and encourager of the many outreach efforts of her church. She was an aerobics instructor at the YWCA and active in Jazzercize. Shirley will always be remembered for her gentle quiet spirit, her words of encouragement, her loving acts of kindness, and her faithful service. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved flowers and the outdoors. She is survived by her husband, Galord Smith, her sons, Bradley Smith and Corey Smith of St. Charles; her parents Elmer and Joan Knight of South Hutchinson, Kansas and sisters, Rebecca (John) Winstead and Shelly (Scott) Sellers.
