Sonja Naomi Ophelia Williams Slack was born on March 12, 1938, the youngest and only girl to Reverand Emerall F. Williams and Esther Williams. Sonja was preceded in death, her parents, and brothers, Emerall Williams Jr., (Helen/Ruth), George and Rudolph (Victoria). Sonja married Arvell Slack and had twin daughters, Annette Slack, (Thomas Monroe) and Antoinette Ruth Love, who preceded her in death. Sonja spent the majority of her life with the love of her life Edgar Snipes, who preceded her in death.
Sonja was baptized at a very early age by Reverand E.F. Williams, her dad and Senior Pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, St. Louis. Sonja was also a former member of Cote Brilliante Presbyterian Church under Rev. William Gillespie, and her current church was Westside MBC Church under Pastor Rev. Dr. Ronald L. Bobo and Pastor Charles H.N. Bobo, Sr.
Sonja graduated from Sumner High School class of 1957. She attended some college and worked for the Department of Agriculture where she retired over twenty years ago.
Sonja was an avid Bridge player, she loved to play bridge with her crew and members of the American Bridge Association, Metropolitan Bridge Club and Richmond Heights Bridge Club. Following Covid, she played Bridge online daily. Sonja was passionate about her grandchildren. She loved watching her grandson Carey Davis win Superbowl XLIII with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2009. Sonja also loved to travel and loved watching her great grandchildren grow and flourish.
Sonja leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Annette (Thomas Monroe), grandchildren, Carey Davis, (children Makayla, Zavier and Madisyn), Cortez Wilkins, (Tiffany, wife, children, Cortez, DaVonne, Carmesha, Carniya), Anthony (Mikey) Wilkins, who preceded her in death, Ebony Wilkins, (children Dwight and Byron, (BJ), Alicia Love (children Zakiya and Taniesha). First cousin, Marion Taylor (daughter Candice). Two bonus children, (Kelly Duncan and Kyle Slack), bonus grandchildren, Sterling Finney, and Travis Monroe. Sisters, Jane Franklin, Carol Hamilton, Cynthia Hunter, and Shirley Holmes. Two bonus granddaughters Cheena Davis and Zulibeth Marquez, and a host of friends and family.
Special thanks to family and friends that helped get Sonja to bridge, Carol Belland, Donald Gage, Tiffany and Christopher Garry and Zulibeth Marquez. You all helped her live a very fulfilled life.
