Spurgeon “Van” Eugene Vanhoose, Jr., of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the age of 95. Beloved husband of Mary Vanhoose; cherished son of the late Spurgeon and Stella Vanhoose; devoted father of Cathy (James) Parr and Kenneth (Susan) Vanhoose; step-father of Gail (Jerry) Heiderich, Kenneth (Sandy) Walter, Larry (Carol) Walter and Donna (Tom) Sander; loving grandfather of Jim Parr, Cassie (Richard) Davis, Zachary (Sallie) Vanhoose, Macaulay Vanhoose, Robert Walter, Angela (Joel) Garner, Monica (Craig) Herzog, Kristofer (Karli) Heidrich, Sarah Willard, and Brittany (Sean) Scott; dear brother of Betty (the late Bob) Townsend. Also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren.
Van proudly and honorably served his Country in the United States Army, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He also served in Korea as well. Van was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Ferguson. He enjoyed watching Cardinals baseball and in his younger years, he liked to golf. In his free time Van liked playing board games, and is remembered fondly for his love of chocolate, especially See’s Candy. He was a very steadfast, faithful, and patient man, with a loving and dependable nature. Van was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
