Stella Smith

Stella Smith (nee LaVelle), of Saint Peters, MO, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 at the age of 85. Loving wife of 63 years to Jack Smith; beloved daughter of the late Hugh and Neoma LaVelle; devoted mother of Susan (Mike Kuechler) Hoernschemeyer, Mark Smith, Joel (Diane) Smith, Ann (Michael) Dunavan, and Sarah (John Anderson) Taylor; cherished grandmother of Josh (Ashley Pease) Givens, Jamie Rosenburg, Darrell (Toni) Givens, Melanie (Mike) Cook, Haley (Jordan) Shaeffer, Luke Smith, and Logan Smith; treasured great-grandmother of Maggie Cook, Millie Cook, Maeve Cook, Alexis Peterson, Carter Givens, Madelyn Givens, and Ava Pease; dear sister of Dorothy Menge. Stella is also preceded in death by her son, Eric H. Smith; her siblings, Thomas LaVelle, Jerry LaVelle, Jean Schneider, and Alice Gabel; her grandson, Henry Dunavan and nephew, Kenny LaVelle.

Stella devoted her compassion as a RN/BSN and head nurse at St. Joseph Health Center for 39 years. She was a faithful member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church where she was a communion minister at church and nursing homes and sang in the choir. Stella was also a member of St. Peters Choral Society. Stella received the Comforter and Nurturer award from the St. Louis Archdiocese in 2015. She enjoyed counted cross-stitch, reading, traveling with her husband, spending time with her family and working on genealogy. Stella was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Memorials may be made in Stella's name to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
