Thomas Charles Ahlers, DDSMS, age 61 born 9/26/1941 in St. Louis, Missouri died accidentally 11/13/2002 in Calhoun County, Illinois. Preceded in death by father Paul and mother Myrtle. He is survived by his life partner Mary Sue Rethlake, who he loved and cherished beyond all others, her son Zack, and countless close friends. He is also survived by brother Larry and several cousins. Tom Ahlers received his under grad degree from Drury University, Springfield, Missouri. Following graduation from Washington University School of Dentistry he served two years in the public health service. It was at this time his passion for aviation was born. After the public health service he enrolled in Washington University School of Orthodontics. After graduation he held a locum tenens position as an ortho in Hays, Kansas. In 1971 he opened his practice in St. Charles, Missouri where he continued his practice until his untimely death. Tom Ahlers was a man of integrity and loyalty with a deep passion for life. He embraced every challenge. Tom will be missed every day by those whose lives he touched. Thank you to his loyal office staff Diane, Debbie, Donna and Teresa. Thank you to his friend and doctor, Ann Zerr, University of Indiana Medical School, and her son Daniel, the staff at St. Louis Rehabilitation Institute, Barnes Hospital, and especially Dr. Allyson Zazulia, neurologist, Barnes Hospital Washington University. I thank you for the love you each have shown, but now its time I traveled alone. So grieve a while for me if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust. Its only a while that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart. I wont be far away, for life goes on, so if you need me, call and I will hear.''
