Thomas James Smith, of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the age of 70. Beloved husband of Rita Smith for 42 years; cherished son of the late Donald and Josephine Smith. Devoted father of Rachel (Alfred Coco) Smith, Adrienne (Derek Kratzer) Smith and Brian (Erin) Smith; loving grandfather of Mabel Kratzer, Phayre Krazter, McKinley "Mac" Smith, Savannah Smith, and the late Teddy Smith; dear brother of Ray (Cheri) Smith, Donna (Bill) Burger, Tim (Nancy) Smith, Steve (Mary) Smith, Mary (John) Terhaar, Barb (Colin) Croas, and Dan Smith.
Tom was born in Western New York into a large family. After high school, he pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering and eventually settled in the St. Louis area, where he spent his entire career with McDonnell Douglas/Boeing. He deeply valued education for himself and his children. Tom formed a lifelong group of friends playing softball in his early working years and later enjoyed watching and coaching his children’s soccer and basketball teams. He loved spending quality time with his family, watching Buffalo Bills football, and tending to his yard. A talented cook, he delighted in providing for his family and was especially known for his polenta and risotto dishes.
Tom was a kind, selfless man, deeply principled and steadfast in his morals. He adored his children and grandchildren, offered them endless guidance and support, loved playing with them, and embarked on many road trips with them over the years to visit his parents and siblings in Western New York.
The Smith family wishes to thank those at Siteman Cancer Center at St. Peters for their kindness, care, and friendship. Tom was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorials may be made in Tom’s name to The Autism Community in Action.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 19th, please check in for more details at a later date.
