Velma Hackmann Wobus

Our beloved mother Velma Hackmann Wobus of 789 Eckrich Place, St. Louis,MO, passed away on September 27, 2006 at St. Mary’s Health Center in St. Louis after a short illness. Velma was the wife of the late Hermann B. Wobus. She grew up in St. Charles, MO,and lived for 40 years in Norfolk, VA, before moving to St. Louis in 1995. She was the daughter of August Hackmann and Martha Schaefer Hackmann of St. Charles,both of whom predeceased her. Velma is survived by her children, Richard (Nadine) Wobus of Bowie, MD, John (Linda) Wobus of Manlius, NY, Gregory Wobus of Norfolk, VA, and Kathy Wobus of St.Louis, MO, by three grandchildren, Megan (Charley) Beller of Rochester, NY, Timothy Wobus of Manlius, NY, and Nicole (Justin) Hill of Myrtle Beach, SC; by one great-grandchild, Naftali Beller of Rochester, NY, and by her sister, Lorraine Hackmann Jordan and brother-in-law, John Jordan, of Chesapeake, VA and nieces and nephew. She is also survived by many cousins in the Schaefer and Hackmann families of the St. Charles area. Velma graduated from St. Charles High School, the school of nursing at the former Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis in 1949 and received her B. S. N. at the University of Missouri, Columbia. She was a nurse and clinical instructor at Deaconess until 1955, and later worked for two years in the Coronary Care Unit at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, VA. She was active in St. Johns U. C. C. (formerly E. and R. Church) in St. Charles, Christ United Methodist Church in Norfolk, VA, where she was an alto soloist in the choir, and Grace United Methodist Church of St. Louis. She was a member of Kappa Phi sorority.
