Vernon David Bates, of Saint Peters, MO, born in Carrollton, MO. On April 25, 1936, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021 at the age of 84. Beloved son of the late William and Viola Bates (Wakefield). He was a loving husband of 67 years to Virginia Mae Bates (Hudspeth) married on April 17, 1954; devoted father to Sherrie Smith, Janice (Gary) Gerber, Kenneth (Terri) Bates, and Kevin Bates. Vernon is preceded in death by his siblings William, Richard, Virginia, Floyd LeRoy, Lola Jean, Carl, Betty Luis, Edith Ellen, one un-named newborn and survived by his brother, John D. Bates. A treasured grandfather of 10, David, Melissa, Michael, Casey, Phillip, Holly, Kevin Lee, Jodie, Amber, and Brittney. Loving great grandfather of 14, Luke, Nolan, Abby, Olivia, Maysen, Caleb, Sophia, Mason, Connor, Kyndall, Connor, Britton, Aiden, Preston, and another great grandbaby on the way.
Vernon belonged to Cement Masons Union Local 527 for 62 years and finished out his career as a concrete finisher of 36 years with Vee-Jay Cement Contracting Company due to health reasons.
Vernon was a jack of all trades as he built every home that his family ever lived in and worked on every vehicle his family ever owned. There wasn’t too much that Vernon couldn’t do. He enjoyed singing, whistling, playing music, fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Vernon will be remembered by his family and friends of all the stories and jokes he used to tell. He will be dearly loved and greatly missed by all who knew him.
