Vickie E. Turpin of Troy, MO, passed away at the age of 61 on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. She was survived by her parents, Robert Turpin and Karen Mikelson; and her brother, Keith Turpin.
Vickie attended Bowling Green High School where she was in band, served as a Majorette and was first saxophone. She was very active in FFA and was among the first female members. She went to University of Missouri on a full ride journalism scholarship. She graduated with in three and a half years with a degree in Agriculture Economics. From 1983-1986, she was a Certified General Appraiser and did a mass appraisal for the state of Missouri. She went to work for Jack Kinker of Kinker Appraisal in Troy in the late 80's. She bought him out and operated Kinker Appraisal for 32 years. Vickie loved to golf and to travel, visiting nearly fifty countries around the world and every state in the US during her life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was a member of International Right of Way Association and Independent See Appraisers. Vickie was extremely involved with Troy Elks Lodge #2805. She was a charter member and her membership number was #6. She was one of the first officers of the lodge. When she was first elected Exalted Ruler in 2000-2001, she was the first female in the state of Missouri in that position. She served again as Exalted Ruler for 2019-2020 and again from 2020-2021. She was Elk of the Year in 2015-2016 and again from 2017-2018. She was Elk Officer of the Year 2003-2004. Along with her brother, Keith, she worked with Elks Hoop Shoot for many years. She served as Elks State Esquire in 2019-2020 and State Director 2020-2021.
She was instrumental in implementing Lincoln County School District's school lunch program that provided for students who wouldn't have otherwise had a lunch. She was also very supportive of the Key Youth Center that provides housing for children who are homeless. She also provided lunches for Troy Football Team and hosted their banquet. Her cooking was legendary. Whether tapas, hamburgers and fries, or prime rib and all the fixings, it was delicious.
