Vincent Eugene “Gene” Grassmuck passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021. Born in St. Louis, Mo., on May 19, 1946, Gene was the son of the late Vincent and Geraldine (nee Lehmann) Grassmuck. Gene was the beloved husband of Gail Ann (nee Lichtenberg) Grassmuck, who preceded him in death, the father of Brett (Wendy) Grassmuck and Joseph (Mallory) Grassmuck, loving grandfather of Abigail Grassmuck, Carter Grassmuck, Nora Grassmuck and Reid Grassmuck. Gene was also the brother to the late Mary (the late James) Lawton and the late John Grassmuck, Roseann (Mike) Moore, Frank (Sharon) Grassmuck, Cathy (Tim) Spinks, Joan (Dean) Horn and Jane Jones and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Gene was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as a water treatment specialist in Thailand during the Vietnam war. After leaving the service, he went on to work as a pipefitter, completing many projects across the state of Missouri, from Lambert airport to malls and power plants. He and his wife Gail raised two sons and could always be found in the stands during their concerts, events or games, no matter the season or the venue. An avid fan of St. Louis sports teams, Gene rarely missed viewing a Blues or Cardinals game, often providing his sons a play by play over text or phone. Later in life he found his greatest joy in his role of grandpa, finding any way possible to spoil his grandchildren. His wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
