Memorials may be made to Humane Society of St. Charles. Violet "Vi" Steinert, of O'Fallon, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the age of 90 at her home. Violet was the daughter of John and Mary Cutler, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Bertha and Nellie and one brother, Ralph. She was born in Fayette County, IL on February 5, 1919 and celebrated her 90th birthday this year with family and neighbors along with her church family. She is survived by her two nephews, Glen Hunter, Jr. of Ramsey, IL and Bill Hunter of Belleville, IL, one niece, Olga Smail of Apple Valley CA. Violet attended three years of high school in Beechy, IL and one year at Brownstown High in Brownstown, IL. She attended class reunions until 2007. She loved horses and rode her pony to school every day. On Dec. 8, 1962 she married Thomas George (he passed away in 1983). Later she met and married Fred Steinert in 1984 and he died in 1998 Violet and Fred loved to square dance and travel around the states dancing for many years. In her young years, Vi could be found on a golf course and had the trophies to show just how good she was. Violet worked several years for Standard Oil of Ohio and from there she went to Wagner Electric until she retired as a Key Punch Operator. She came out of retirement to teach at the Tech School in St. Charles and ended her career to take care of her husband, Tom, a WWII Veteran. She is going to be sadly missed by those who have cared for her the past two years along with her dear friend, Hattie Sutton.
