Virginia N. Mabry

March 18, 1936 — September 23, 2021

Virginia Nell Mabry, more often known as Jenny (she always said she only heard her full name when she was in trouble!), passed away on Thursday, September 23, at the age of 85 in St. Charles, MO.

She was born March 18, 1936 in Senath, MO to Oscar Arvil (OA) Mason and Lawcie Idella (Chipman) Mason. On June 21, 1952 she married her beloved husband, Joe L. Mabry, also of Senath. They were married for 62 years at the time of his death. They lived in Senath for many years, having two sons, Terry Joe Mabry and Brian Mason Mabry.

They moved to St. Charles where Jenny spent time caring for their home, and her family, as well as working part-time as a lunch/recess aide and working several election polls. She also loved to volunteer;  she donated blood and volunteered through the American Red Cross for over 30 years. Much of this time was spent at Clay West nursing home, visiting with residents, participating in a worship service and sharing cards, letters, and gifts with the residents. But the most important thing she shared with the people was her love; she rarely met a stranger, and if she did, she would quickly do her best to welcome them as family. She loved to share stories of her past (like running away to Arkansas to get married at 16 when she was supposed to be at the movies) or bragging on her family and their farming ability (and her older brother, Harold, the world's first cotton picking champion).

Anyone who was a part of her life was likely showered with soda, candy, and baked goods (cookies, cakes, fudge and magic bars were all classics in her "younger years"). She also made famous "toasted cheese" sandwiches for anyone who walked through the door - she loved to see people, especially kids, eat! If it wasn't toasted cheese, she was likely taking the kids to McDonald's to eat and watch them enjoy the play place; she was known to enjoy playing there, too, even choosing to celebrate her 80th birthday climbing into the play place with her great-grandchildren.

Jenny also had a love for the outdoors; up until June 2021, she could be found daily out in her yard pulling weeds, trimming bushes and even mowing the lawn! In the winter she could be found shoveling, or sweeping snow. Nothing slowed her down! She also always found time to support her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Whether they were playing sports, singing in church, performing in a concert, or putting on a play, she would always show up to cheer along her family. She also loved to celebrate their accomplishments, and birthdays, with trips to the park, zoo, pool, or Chuck E Cheese. She also had a love for fireworks, bonfires, and water balloon fights (even in the dead of winter); as long as the kids were happy and entertained, she was too!

Over the years, Jenny attended many different churches. She spent time working with the children of her churches (Sunday school, Youth group, VBS - anyway she could), cleaning up the church, and sending sympathy or get well cards to her fellow church members; she loved to be involved! Without a doubt, she loved God and she devoted herself to him.

She was the mother of the late Terry Mabry (Pat); Brian Mabry (Michelle); cherished Granny of Terry (Heather) Mabry, Sarah Mabry, Aaron (Brandy) Mabry, Joshua Mabry, Brinn (Laura) Mabry, Brielle (Ben) Ketcherside, Alyssa (John David) Israel, Braden (Bailey) Mabry, and Kate Mabry; beloved great-grandmother of Juli Mabry, Nick Carter and Nora Mabry, Robert and Kambrya Mabry, Kaylee Ketcherside, and Emma Mabry Israel; dear sister of the late Harold Mason, the late James Lee Mason, the late Paul Wayne Mason, Donny Mason, Shirley Manley and the late Allie Lou; and loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. She will be missed dearly by all!
