Virginia Rose (Newell) Claxton age 99 of St. Charles, MO passed away on December 29, 2020.
Mrs. Claxton was born on December 4, 1921 in Mounds, IL. the daughter of the late Fred Ernest and Eva Mae (Jordan) Newell of Mounds, IL. On June 23, 1940 at the Mounds Methodist Church, she married Charles Elbert Claxton of Pulaski who preceded her in death on March 1, 2000. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, John Henry Newell, Mounds, IL; Arvel (Edna Horner) Newell, Mounds, IL; Fred (Catherine Dyas) Newell, Cairo, IL; James (Jackie) Newell, Peoria, IL and two sisters; Irma (Arthur) Clark, Mounds, IL and Ella Nora (Jack) Shepherd, Mounds, IL.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Douglas) Kinslow, St. Charles, MO; Kathie Kiethline, St. Charles, MO and one son, Charles “Bud” (Jean Hinchcliffe) Claxton of O’Fallon, IL. Also surviving are four granddaughters, Diane Hornback (Frank) Fisher of White Plains, MD; Judi Hornback Redmond of Walled Lake, MI; Mickey Kinslow (John) Hauk, Wentzville, MO; Becky Kiethline (Shawn) Marvin, St. Charles, MO and four grandsons, Chuck (Donna Thibodeaux) Kiethline, Melville, MO; Scott (Wendy Zblewski) Kiethline, St. Peters, MO; Dr. Matthew (Kristi Carner) Claxton, O’Fallon, MO; Timothy (Becky Chaput) Claxton, O’Fallon, IL; 17 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Virginia was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Alton Memorial, St. Francis in Litchfield, Sparta and Olney Hospitals; the Jasper County Health Department and the National Red Cross of Illinois.
She was a member of First St. Charles United Methodist Church where she enjoyed serving as a Hospitality Host, member of the Mac Adams Sunday School Class; Fannie Crosby Circle and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the St. Charles PEO FM Chapter; Amaryllis Chapter 750 Order of the Eastern Star of Illinois and National Federation of Music Clubs, Morning Etude of St. Louis.
