William A. Magie, Jr.

Magie, Jr., William A. formerly of Fairfield Plantation of Villa Rica, GA and Northbrook, IL, died Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at the age 84. Bill was the beloved husband of Barbara E. Magie for 62 years; cherished son of the late William A. Magie, Sr. and Margaret MacGregor Magie; devoted father of Ted (Deborah) Magie of Naples, FL, Bonnie (Michael) Popienko of Woodstock, GA, and Holly (Brian) Phillips of  O’Fallon, MO; adored grandfather to Lauren (Patrick) Cole, Christopher Popienko, Matthew Phillips, Elizabeth Phillips, and Kathryn Phillips; treasured great-grandfather to Carter, Hunter and Kaylee Cole; loving brother of Margaret Magie(Lawrence) Dunham. Bill is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Magie, and his brothers, Peter Magie and John Magie.

 

Bill grew up in Winnetka, IL and graduated from New Trier High School in 1949. After high school he attended Harvard University where he earned a degree in Business and Geology in 1953. He then went on to proudly serve his country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. When Bill returned from active duty he worked for Magie Brothers Oil Company and later became the President of the company. He retired after 35 years in the oil business and moved to Fairfield Plantation in Villa Rica, GA. Bill became very involved in the community as a president of the Plantation Homeowner’s Association (POA) and an active member of the Plantation Press as a photographer, writer, and proofreader. He served on numerous committees and received the prestigious “Volunteer of the Year Award”. His hobbies included sailing, skiing, golfing, photography, and genealogy, but most of all, Bill loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
