William Allan Cole

August 30, 1950 — December 22, 2018

It is with profound sorrow that I say goodbye to my beloved husband of 27 years, William Allan Cole, who at the age of 68 years young, passed away on December 22, 2018 at 5:24pm in Cape Girardeau, MO, from traumatic brain injury due to a fall.

Allan is survived by his wife, JoAnn; mother, Shirley Canfield; brothers, Dale (Laurie), Richard (Virginia), Tom (Andra), Lloyd (Teresa), John (Kelly); sisters, Cindy Everett (Herb) and Evonne Stinehart (Casey); daughters, Amanda Cole and Alicia MacLean (Cam); step children, Michelle Palmer, Melissa Palmer (Robert), and Barry Hailey (Nicole); 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Allan was known as a bouncing ball on the oceans of life.  If there was an experience, he wanted to have, the opportunity was provided. Many times he tried to count up all of his experiences, to no avail, as he would forget one or remember one and his count would be off.  One of his pride-filled moments was his 15 year retirement from 3M.  Allan would say on more than one occasion, “Why would God pick me up from the most beautiful place and drop me in Texas, the most arrogant state, in the most arrogant country in the world.”  He was speaking of a small island he lived on for a short period of time.

We traveled all over the world, and were working on traveling within the United States.  One trip that I am so happy that we made was in September, 2018, when he had wanted to go to Detroit and we did.  He was so happy to see places that he remembered as a child. The last trip that we began was to Texas to have Christmas with my family and to see his step daughter, Melissa, receive her 10-year sobriety chip.

He will be missed by family and friends, which he considered all of his friends to be his family; from Canada to Washington to Texas to Missouri.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Allan’s name to Missouri Hospice & Palliative Care Association located at 606 E. Capital Ave., Jefferson City, Missouri (MHPCA). Allan was a supporter of the MHPCA by providing volunteer work both in their offices and at their conferences.
