William “Bill” C. Appleton
November 9, 1937 — March 18, 2022
William “Bill” C. Appleton, of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022, at the age of 84. Beloved husband of over 61 years to Marvel Appleton; cherished son of the late John “Jack” and Gertrude Appleton. Devoted father of Carey (Mark) Suellentrop, Cathy (Greg) Martin, and Crissy (the late Mark) Prager; loving grandfather of Matt (Joy) Suellentrop, Tim Suellentrop, Jill (Nick) Kedzuch, Chad (Fallon) Martin, Olivia Prager, and Cole Prager; treasured great-grandfather of Weston Kedzuch and Dean Suellentrop; dear brother of the late David (the late Peggy) Appleton. Bill was an uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the OHIO National Guard during and after high school. He attended church with Marvel at St. John United Church of Christ in St. Charles. Bill dedicated over 30 years to Monsanto and after retirement, he enjoyed tending to his yard, bowling, golfing and the routine weekly breakfast with his buddies. He also loved to support his grandchildren with their sporting and music events.
Bill was a man of few words yet, was amazingly kind to all his path crossed. His smile and slight humor lit up a room when he chose to share his wittiness. He was respected by many but loved by all who took the opportunity to get to know the quiet man that he was. He would tell his daughters “God gave us two ears, two eyes and only one mouth”
His love for the game of golf was his trademark to many people. He traveled many places near and far to experience the seral landscapes of well-manicured greens to the sharpness of a fresh cut fairway. His love didn’t just stop at playing the game as he marshalled at local courses after retirement, always keeping the little white ball in his sights.
Bowling was a close second as many may remember. He always had that gentle approach and would just let it glide down the lane into the pocket with ease. Teaching his girls the game came easy to him with the extra added spoonful of patience. Many friendships evolved from the lanes on the “top and bottom of the hill” Bill was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorials may be made in Bill's name to American Parkinson's Disease Association-St. Louis Chapter.
