William “Lance” Carlough, of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at the young age of 54. A loving husband of Joan Patricia Carlough; beloved son of John Gerald (Al Smith) Carlough and Victoria Sue Craig; devoted father of Bri (Jonathan Brault) Carlough; dear brother of Jennifer Carlough and Justin (Sabrina) Carlough; cherished uncle and a beloved nephew and friend to many.
Lance was, above all else, a devoted family man. A loving husband of 30 years, a proud and dedicated father, and a true caretaker at heart. He spent a lifetime on the water, the Colorado river as a child and years later boating and wake boarding on the Sacramento Delta with family and friends. Lance loved an evening outside barbecuing or making pizza on his wood burning stove. He had a passion for gardening, spending countless hours on his lawn mower, taking pride in his yard, vegetable garden and home.
Born and raised in California, Lance attended the American School of Kuwait overseas while living with his father. He was an standout high school athlete, winning best backstroke swimming competition in Cairo, Egypt and played on the school’s water polo team. After returning to California, Lance spent two decades building a life with his wife Joan and daughter Bri, while establishing an IT career in Silicon Valley. He and his family eventually moved to Missouri in 2015, where he built the life he loved. Honest and fair to the bone with a stellar sense of integrity, Lance was a mentor to many in his career, especially at Charter, where his colleagues were more than just coworkers—they were friends.
He was incredibly proud of his daughter, Bri. Lance coached Bri’s young soccer team for four years, helping them build a successful and skillful team. He supported and celebrated her achievement of earning a bachelors’s and master’s degree and was profoundly proud of her academic successes. His kindness and generosity extended beyond work, always ready to lend a hand in the neighborhood. With a great sense of humor and a playful, goofy side, he never failed to bring smiles to his family and friend’s faces.
A lifelong hockey enthusiast, Lance was a devoted San Jose Sharks fan, even attending the 2016 Stanley Cup Final games in Pittsburgh with his daughter, Bri. He loved traveling, often seeking out warm destinations.
Lance was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
