William Ian Ferrier, LtCol of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the age of 88. Husband of Judith Ferrier; son of Ian and Elizabeth Ferrier; devoted father of Michael (Beth) Ferrier and Stephen (Coni) Ferrier; cherished grandfather of Lauren Ferrier, Alexandra Ferrier, Nicole (Benjamin) Mitchell, and Ashley Ferrier; dear brother of Robert (Beatrice) Ferrier; and uncle of Robert Ferrier.

William's life was marked by 23 years of unwavering service to his country as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. His commitment to duty and honor was unparalleled, retiring in 1982 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He believed in the importance of a strong physique and staying active, which he maintained even in his later years through activities like fishing, weightlifting and other outdoor activities.

William's infectious positivity and social nature made him a friend to all. He never met a stranger and greeted each day with his trademark phrase, "It's a beautiful day in which to serve." He cherished his role as a supportive father and an active coach, taking great pride in his sons' accomplishments and careers. Above all, he adored his grandchildren and poured his heart into being their doting grandfather. William lived by the motto "mission first and family always," leaving behind a legacy of selflessness and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
