William “Bill” Hayes, of Warrenton, MO, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the age of 85. Loving husband of Judy Hayes; beloved son of the late Marie and William Joseph Hayes; proud father of Bill (Elaine) Hayes, and Jackie (Victor) Allen; and grandfather of Stephanie and Nicholas.
Bill was married to the love of his life, Judy, for 51 years. After graduating from high school, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Returning to the St. Louis area, Bill worked for Union Electric as a lineman, and then supervisor for 37 years before retiring.
Bill loved life and pursued it wholeheartedly... as a licensed pilot, accomplished and experienced skydiver, sailor, scuba diver, snow skier and motorcycle rider. As an active parachutist, he was a lifelong member of the United States Parachute Association and served in numerous leadership roles from Central Regional Director, to Vice President of the Board, and then Chairman of the National Board for a two year term. In 1972 as a competitive skydiver, he was National Accuracy Champion and the first person to accomplish that feat with a square parachute. He jumped with the US Parachute Team from 1969 -1972. Throughout his skydiving career, he completed approximately 7,500 jumps.
Bill and Judy are members of the St. Charles HOG Chapter and they enjoyed riding with the group as well as independently. In 2012, they traveled on their motorcycles from their home outside of Warrenton to Alaska and the Arctic Circle.
Bill was dearly loved and leaves behind many family and friends who will miss him greatly.
