William Hitzemann

William Robert Hitzemann, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved friend, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the age of 45. William, of Saint Charles, MO, leaves behind a profound legacy of love, dedication, and service. 

He is survived by his adoring wife, Elizabeth Sanfilippo-Hitzemann, and their five children: Sam Hynes, Piper Hynes, Nayomi Hynes, Leina Hitzemann, and Miles Hitzemann. William was the loving son of Darrell and Kathryn Hitzemann and the son-in-law of Joe (Pam) Sanfilippo. He will be deeply missed by his siblings, Daniel (Nazlee) Hitzemann and Anna (William) Daniels, as well as his best friend, Dan (Jennifer) Stewart. 

William proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, demonstrating his unwavering commitment and honor. Recently, he was a passionate player for the St. Louis Blues Wounded Warriors Hockey team, reflecting his enduring love for sports. From cheering for the Cardinals and Blues to engaging in fantasy football and high school baseball and football, William’s enthusiasm for sports was boundless. 

An accomplished scholar, William earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Alliance University. Following his attendance at Alliance, he earned his BSN in nursing from Chamberlain University. His dedication extended beyond academics; he was also a mason and a member of the Knights of Columbus. 

Above all, William was a true family man. He cherished cooking and grilling for his loved ones and had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Stitch, Mary Jane, and Molina. 

William’s warmth, humor, and generosity will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in William's name to the St. Louis Blues Wounded Warriors Hockey Team, an organization close to his heart. 

Rest in peace, William. You will be remembered with love and admiration. 


A luncheon will be held at the American Legion Post 9305 S. Broadway St. St. Louis, MO 63125 following the service.
