William James Popp

September 14, 1944 — December 24, 2012

Popp, William James, of St. Peters, Missouri, died on Monday, December 24, 2012 at the age of 68. Loving husband of Carolyn Popp; dear son of the late Wilbur E. and Margaret Condie Popp; devoted father of Cindy Lynn (Peyton) Smyly, David James Popp, Jeanna Kaye (Scott) Schaumann, Kimberley Ann (Justin) Malyn, and Jennifer Ada (Tavis) Edwards; cherished grandfather of Megan Popp, Katie Popp, Adrienne Schaumann, Justin Malyn, Sierra Smyly, Phillip Smyly, Kelly Popp, Malcolm Edwards, Dana Schaumann, Summer Edwards, Cameron Smyly, Chase Malyn, Asher Edwards, and Griffin Edwards; dear brother of Kaye Wittwer, Sandra Simmons, and Richard L. Popp. William was a devoted church member whose service to others was an example to us all. He enjoyed teaching others about genealogy and his love of history and family history. William strongly believed in the eternal existence of families and when not serving his immediate family, he served in the LDS temples nearby wherever he lived, supporting his firm belief that families can be together forever. William retired from Southwestern Bell in 1998 but never stopped working. He shared his love of history and family history while serving an LDS mission in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife from 2002 to 2004. He loved teaching others how to research their family history. He also worked for the St. Charles County Historical Society as an archivist, and loved playing in the After Hours Community Band with his wife for many years.
