William R. Matthews, Jr.

William R. Matthews, Jr., of Ferguson, MO, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023 at the age of 65.  Beloved son of the late May and William R., Matthews, Sr.; loving brother of Richard (Sharon) Matthews, Kathy (Sam) Guccione, Laura Matthews, Linda (Jim) Simon, and Mary (John) Ross.  He was a dear uncle & great uncle to many.  William was also preceded in death by his brother, James Matthews, and nephew, Justin Simon. 

William was a true outdoorsman and loved fishing, especially at the Riverlands in Alton. He also enjoyed deer hunting and just spending time in nature.  He was an avid bird watcher and a member of the Wild Bird Sanctuary.  In his younger years he looked forward to camping trips with his family.   

William loved photography and was very good at it, and he even sold some of his artwork.  In his free time, he liked using his metal detector to hunt for treasures.  He also enjoyed cycling, playing tennis, and was skilled at fixing computers.  He was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and never missed listening to Jack Buck announce the games on the radio.  

Family was important to William and growing up he always looked up to his older brother.  William was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

Memorial contributions may be made in William's name to American Cancer Society.
