Cherished son of the late Alfred and Marjorie Ruether; stepson of the late Paul Struckhoff; devoted father of Andrew Ruether, world’s-best father-in-law of Traci Ruether, and proud grandfather of Luella Jean Ruether; dear brother of Gregory Ruether and brother-in-law of Patti Ruether; fond brother of Mary Werth and brother-in-law of Steve Werth; loving brother of Donald Struckhoff and brother-in-law of Brenda Struckhoff; and caring brother of the late Frances Ann Stapleton and brother-in-law of surviving Dan Stapleton. Willie worked as a construction manager for Bittick Construction in St. Charles. He enjoyed bass fishing, Cardinals Baseball, bird watching, and frying up the best fish and chips on this side of the Mississippi. Willie was a Busch league champion pool player, a founding member of the Zig-Zag intramural team, and a Euchre grand champion. He loved visiting his son and daughter-in-law in Colorado to drive over mountain passes, fly fish, and call in owls. Willie will be remembered for his signature phrases, including “get your bait in the water” and “it ain’t a vacation if you don’t eat ice cream.” Willie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In remembrance of Willie’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the World Bird Sanctuary or Friends of Historic Augusta. Checks will be collected at the viewing.
