William E. “Bill” Sass,

Through trust in Jesus Christ, St. Peters resident William E. “Bill” Sass, 98, entered Heaven on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at home.

Beloved husband of Betty M. Sass; cherished son of the late Wilhelm and Margarete Sass; devoted father of Will (Deborah) Sass, Bets (Scott) Yaeger, Versy (Terry) Wies and Matt (Patti) Sass; loving grandfather of Jon (Kaitlin) Wies, Julie Yaeger, Jacob (Mendy) Sass, Daniel (Jill) Wies, Eric (Sondre) Sass, Christie Brinkman, Kay (Will) Townsend, Nat (Carissa) Sass, Noah (Karis) Sass and Dori (Hayden) Switzer; treasured great-grandfather of seven; dear brother of the late Vera Wutz; Bill is also survived by nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Bill was born July 6, 1926, in Buffalo, NY to Wilhelm and Margarete (Voelker) Sass. He attended Seneca High School in Buffalo, later completing his GED. Bill served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 with the 137th and 139th Construction Battalions (“Seabees”) on Okinawa Japan.

Bill was a proud American and always exhibited a "Can Do" attitude throughout life.

He married Betty M Wolf on April 8, 1950 and celebrated nearly 75 years of marriage.

Over the course of his life Bill had many interests and accomplishments including earning a private pilot license, commercial ship captains license, farrier’s license and owning two businesses. He served the community several years on the St. Charles County Planning and Zoning Commission. Bill was a member of AMVETS, the American Legion, a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner.

Bill retired in 1991 after a long career in construction sales. He lost vision in one eye in 2000, then became fully blind in 2005. He used his excellent memory to recall names, dates and numbers, astounding his family and friends! He will be missed by many, especially his family. His “wise” sayings will be remembered!

A private burial with military rights will be conducted at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery later this Spring. Memorials may be given to St. Charles County Council of the Blind.
