Colby was born and raised in the Arkansas Delta. A small town thirty miles west of Memphis. Because of its size and proximity, Memphis was always a place his family spent time growing up. Colby enlisted in the Navy after graduation from high school and served aboard submarines for nearly 10 years. Colby was proud of his service on submarines, which is a small community within the military. “First kid on my block to drive a nuclear submarine”, is his often-quoted claim to fame.
Since TV and the internet was a scares commodity while at sea, Colby read a good number of books. He would read fiction, non-fiction, biographies, and anything in between. It was at that time that he read a story about a man with a terminal illness. The story with few characters focused on his end-of-life care. Colby always gravitated to the Funeral Director character in the book. He thought it was an honorable and dutiful vocation.
Colby enrolled and graduated from Mortuary College. He practiced funeral directing in Memphis until 2006. In 2006 he moved to Saint Charles to work for Baue Funeral Homes. Colby has held many positions at Baue, from Staff Embalmer to Director of Operations. Lisa Baue invested her time and energy into developing Colby as a leader within her organization. Graduating with a business degree from Lindenwood was part of the development. He has always been grateful to Lisa for seeing something in him he didn’t necessarily see in himself.
Colby has lived in many different places in his life and traveled millions of miles at sea visiting countries large and small. Saint Charles is home as he has lived here longer than anywhere in his life.
Colby Is married to his wife Kelly, together they are raising two wonderful children. Colby says the greatest gift that his family has given him is unconditional love. The family enjoys traveling to different destinations for hiking and spending time outdoors. Hunting and fishing are other activities that they enjoy together. Cooking is a passion for Colby, He shows his gratitude by preparing large meals for family and friends.
